Instructions for removing stubborn stains from storage furniture
Instructions for removing stubborn stains from storage furniture
1. Scope of the instructions
These guidelines cover the cleaning of bookcases, glass cabinets, sideboards, storage units, kitchen organization furniture, and other panel-based or ready-to-assemble furniture sold by Qulendra.
The goal is to remove persistent residue while limiting the risk of altering edges, coatings, paints, hardware, glass, and joints. Since furniture may have different materials and finishes, the specific instructions provided in the product sheet, on the packaging, or in the manual supplied with the furniture take precedence over the general guidelines on this page.
Do not use a cleaning product if its compatibility with the surface is unclear. In case of doubt, stop the operation and contact Qulendra, providing your order number and the part concerned.
2. Distinguishing a stain from material damage
Before cleaning, it is necessary to verify if the mark is actually a surface deposit. The following should not be treated as simple stains:
panel swelling;
detachment or lifting of the coating;
cracks, chips, or open edges;
permanent paint alterations;
dullness that appeared after using a detergent;
cracked glass;
rust originating from a metal component;
deformations caused by water, heat, or excessive weight.
Scrubbing or wetting these areas can worsen the problem. If the defect was present upon delivery or appeared during normal use, the customer must avoid further intervention and report it to talkhelp@qulendra.com.
3. Preparing the area
Before you begin:
empty the relevant compartment or shelf;
remove dust, crumbs, and solid particles with a soft, dry cloth;
protect the floor, walls, and surrounding parts;
open doors and drawers only as much as necessary;
ensure adequate ventilation;
use gloves compatible with the chosen detergent;
keep liquids and cloths away from any power sockets, integrated lighting, or electrical components.
Do not clean while the furniture is unstable, partially assembled, or missing the required safety fasteners. Do not climb on shelves and do not use doors or drawers as a support point.
4. Preliminary test method
Every detergent must be tested on an inconspicuous area. Apply a minimal amount to a cloth, not directly on the furniture, and treat a small area.
Wait for the surface to be completely dry and check for:
color variations;
loss of shine;
dullness;
softening of the coating;
sticky surface;
lifting of the edge;
color transfer to the cloth.
If any of these alterations appear, do not continue. The fact that a product is labeled "universal," "natural," or "multi-purpose" does not guarantee it is suitable for every panel or finish.
5. Basic procedure
For most surfaces, start with the least aggressive method:
slightly dampen a microfiber cloth with warm water;
wring it out carefully, ensuring it does not drip;
pass it over the stain without applying excessive pressure;
dry immediately with a second, clean, soft cloth.
If water is not enough, use a small amount of diluted neutral detergent, provided it is compatible with the finish. The detergent must be applied to the cloth and not sprayed directly onto the furniture.
Clean with short, controlled movements. Avoid prolonged rubbing in the same spot, especially on matte, painted, or coated surfaces. When finished, remove any residue with a slightly damp cloth and dry completely.
6. Grease stains and food residue
On furniture near the kitchen, grease can combine with dust to form an adherent deposit. Do not scrape with knives, blades, metal sponges, or rigid tools.
First, remove solid residue with a dry cloth. Then, apply a very diluted solution of neutral detergent to a soft cloth, leaving it in contact with the stain for a few seconds without saturating the surface. Wipe the cloth in one direction and dry.
Repeat the operation with small amounts instead of increasing the concentration of the detergent. Pay particular attention to edges, holes, joints, and the undersides of doors: water penetrating these points can cause swelling or detachment.
7. Coffee, wine, drinks, and sauces
Absorb the liquid without rubbing it outward. For an already dried stain, place a slightly damp cloth on it for a short time, then remove the residue with diluted neutral detergent.
Do not leave the wet cloth on the surface and do not pour water directly onto it. In panel furniture, moisture can reach the core through edges, hardware holes, joints, or small damages to the coating.
If the stain has changed the color of the finish, stop cleaning. Discoloration should not be treated with bleaching products, as the result may be more evident than the original stain.
8. Pencil, eraser, or scuff marks
Light marks can initially be removed with a dry microfiber cloth. If they persist, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately.
Do not use abrasive erasers, melamine sponges, or polishing powders without specific confirmation of compatibility. These tools can remove part of the finish and create a lighter or shinier area.
Black marks caused by objects rubbing against the surface must be treated with gentle, repeated passes. High pressure can turn a surface mark into a permanent abrasion.
9. Ink, marker, and cosmetics
Ink or marker stains require special caution. Solvents, alcohol, acetone, and nail polish removers can dissolve paints, adhesives, edges, and coatings.
Do not apply such substances unless the specific documentation for the furniture expressly confirms their use. In the absence of such indication, try only water and diluted neutral detergent using the preliminary method described.
If the pigment has penetrated the finish, further attempts may spread the halo. In this case, stop the operation and request guidance from customer service.
10. Stickers and glue residue
Do not lift stickers with blades or metal objects. Start by slowly removing the backing with your fingers, maintaining traction almost parallel to the surface.
For light residue, use a soft, slightly dampened cloth and work from the edge toward the center. Do not use concentrated heat, steam, oils, strong degreasers, or solvents without confirmation of compatibility.
If the sticker is applied over an edge, film, or painted surface, stop the operation when the coating begins to lift.
11. Mineral deposits and water stains
Light stains may form on surfaces near sinks. Do not use acidic limescale removers, concentrated vinegar, or sanitary products, as they can alter metal, paint, lamination, or edging.
Clean first with a damp cloth and neutral detergent, then dry. If the stain persists, do not automatically increase the acidity of the product. Check the furniture's specific finish first.
Swelling, a rough surface, or a raised edge indicates possible water penetration and should not be treated as simple limescale.
12. Glass, mirrors, and transparent parts
For glass or mirrors, use a soft cloth free of abrasive particles. Apply the detergent to the cloth, avoiding letting the liquid reach frames, edges, seals, or holes.
Do not apply pressure to cracked or chipped glass. If the panel is damaged, do not continue cleaning and do not use the door until it has been inspected.
Transparent surfaces made of materials other than glass can scratch or become opaque with common glass cleaners. When the material is not clearly identified, use only water and a soft cloth after a preliminary test.
13. Hinges, runners, handles, and hardware
Clean the hardware with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not spray cleaners directly onto hinges, runners, or joints.
Do not apply lubricants, oils, or anti-corrosion products unless specified by the furniture instructions. An unsuitable product can attract dust, stain panels, or compromise plastic components.
If a hinge is loose, a runner is misaligned, or a handle moves, cleaning does not replace adjustment or assembly verification. Do not force the opening.
14. Substances and tools to avoid
Unless specifically indicated for the product, do not use:
bleach or whitening products;
ammonia;
acetone or paint thinners;
high-concentration alcohol;
acidic limescale removers;
oven cleaners;
abrasive powders;
steel wool;
rough sponges or abrasive erasers;
steam cleaners;
water jets;
incompatible waxes, oils, or polishes;
mixtures of multiple detergents.
Never mix cleaning products. The combination of different substances can produce dangerous vapors, aggressive residues, or unpredictable reactions.
15. Drying and final check
After cleaning, dry the entire area, including edges, corners, handles, and joints. Leave doors and drawers open for as long as necessary for complete evaporation, without exposing the furniture to direct heat.
Check the surface with side lighting. If a stain remains, do not immediately repeat multiple cleaning cycles. Wait for it to dry completely, as a still-damp area may appear darker.
Only put items away when the compartment is dry. Plates, bottles, containers, and books should not be placed on a surface that is still damp.
16. Cleaning and liability
Qulendra is responsible for original defects and features that do not conform to the description. The customer is responsible for damage caused by incompatible treatment, excessive amounts of liquid, abrasive tools, unauthorized solvents, or failure to follow the available instructions.
A stain resulting from use is not automatically a product defect. Likewise, swelling, detachment, or alteration that appeared during proper use should not be dismissed without a concrete verification.
Before taking action on a problem that might be original, it is advisable to photograph the surface and contact Qulendra. Aggressive cleaning can modify the area and make it more difficult to ascertain the cause.
17. Returns and product handling
The consumer can communicate their withdrawal without providing a reason within 30 calendar days. During the evaluation period, the furniture must be handled only to the extent necessary to verify its nature and characteristics.
The use of chemicals, polishes, solvents, waxes, or permanent treatments can modify the finish and result in a decrease in value when it exceeds normal product inspection.
After the withdrawal notice, the product must be returned without undue delay and in any case within 14 days following the instructions provided by Qulendra. The direct costs of the return carried out using the method indicated by Qulendra are borne by Qulendra.
When a refund is issued, the credit is typically visible within 3-6 business days, depending on the payment provider's technical processing times.
18. Order operational information
Orders are normally prepared for shipment within 1-3 business days. After being handed over to the carrier, delivery is estimated in 5-11 business days. Shipments can be managed by USPS, DHL Express, UPS, or FedEx.
For orders under 188.99 EUR, the standard delivery cost is 18.99 EUR. For orders of 188.99 EUR or more, the standard delivery cost is 0 EUR.
Prices include applicable taxes. Apart from any delivery cost indicated before order confirmation, no additional costs related to the purchase are applied.
